Sanctuary Dark Chocolate is a fictitious packaging model I designed, printed, and constructed for my GD499 Packaging Design course at Oregon State University, 2019. Through this project I explore the bounds of how a product can be uniquely presented. I entertained ideas of how a package could best be compact, compartmentalized, easily stored, and biodegradable. After researching various chocolate brands and testing a few initial models, this Sanctuary Dark Chocolate concept design was finalized.
The box stands tall and, when opened, can be folded out to reveal the other compartments of chocolate. The logo was hand-drawn and designed to appear smooth and milky. The interior and exterior hues resemble the candy themselves (chocolate outside, strawberry inside) and provides consumers insight of what lies inside. Sanctuary is intentioned to hold a double meaning: a refuge to house the chocolate, and goals to help protect the planet from plastic waste by producing the packaging with recycled cardboard material. Dark chocolate tends to be a more luxurious, richer, and healthier treat compared to milk chocolate, which suits the Sanctuary goals and brand. Possible eco-friendly brand promotion could consist of cloth bags, a website, etc. Consumers purchasing Sanctuary Dark Chocolate can do so guilt-free as they can enjoy a delicious treat while also staying green.
Treat yourself. Treat the planet. Give the Earth a Sanctuary.
